Best always said that he wanted to play for an all ireland football team.
I think it should happen, but there will be people out there more concerned with their poxy politics than the love of football.

Well I am completely against it. What about an all British league and scrap the league of Ireland?

British league won't happen because the English premier league is an independent league started by football clubs, not by the FA. Would be absolutely pointless because it would be dominated by the Scum, Chelsea, Arsenal, Celtic and (maybe) Rangers. It would mess around with Champions league placements and UEFA placements. So its got nowt to do with an all-Ireland national team and thus absolutely pointless to even talk about.

So you would disagree then with an all British league with Ireland being part of it, what if the set up say was changed to address issues Irish clubs may have etc?

Jim, the love of my country and the love for the national football team of my country is why i object to it. Northern Ireland. If ROI want to give up their team and come play for NI then i'd be all for it. What would we gain from it?? What rights would the man from NI have?? Would we get the same second class treatment we get from our so called 'all Ireland rugby team' GAWA

Another league, certainly not, I would be for it, more competition. But if it was to replace the premier leagues then yes, on the basis of fucking up the champions league and uefa openings.

The FAI folding up and merging with the IFA would mean an all-Ireland team, certainly the name Northern Ireland would be dropped anyway in favour of Ireland, like it use to be. The IFA is the original Irish football association anyway so it makes sense. Would gain being able to compete internationally much better. Any "second class treatment" you get with Rugby cant happen in football, its governed differently to Rugby and FIFA/UEFA have a lot more power to make sure things go right. You talk about the love of your country, but the love of my country, Ireland, makes me want to see this as well as other reasons that are sporting related. I don't want to get into the issue of flags and all that shite, I'll just point out that mistakes of rugby can be learnt.

Ok let's look at it another way then Jim. What if the Ireland team as Harry said gave up its name and Ireland gave up its league and they joined the N.I league and team. How would you feel about that.

How would you feel about that. There is no Ireland team. Theres only Northern and Republic, there is no team that can call itself "Ireland". I also answered the question, I'd be in favour of it, why? Because there is an all-Ireland league, Linfield won it when they beat Drogheda United, its called the Setanta Cup. If the FAI merged with the IFA, it would be called Ireland, not Northern Ireland.

Complete dodging of the issues and weak attempts to use football as yet another way to 'green' our country. ROI had done quite well in getting to a few major tournaments altough they have slumped in recent years. NI have hopefully a promising few years ahead with a good chance of qualification so in football terms i'm happy.
It won't happen.

How has it been dodging of the issues?
Does it not make you think when some of your "best" players over the years have been in favour of it? Hmm, I wonder why.
