Then you haven't listened to Gerry recently, as he always throws in words 'as Gaeilge' (in Irish). Even when speaking off the cuff on live TV interviews. And all set speeches are peppered with both languages. It might be that the madia now gives Martin a bigger role, than Gerry. Which just shows how media portrayal shapes our thought process more than we sometimes realize.

Sinn Fein bookshop? Not a great way to encourage unionists to take an interest an Irish. A link to amazon or some other non-political website would have been better. You are linking (maybe intentionally, maybe not) the language to republicanism.

That SF site is one of the most tackiest and distasteful sites I've clicked into in a long while. It looks cheap, as if some 10 year old with MS publisher or visual basic got a lollipop for putting it together. And I'd NEVER use a credit card on a cheap looking site. Any wide-boy with a computer can hack up a cheap looking website waiting for the gullible to come with the credit cards.

I've had a copy of mise eire of it but only because at that point amazon was charging more and it was pretty much impossible to buy it in the major hight street retailers such as hmv or as it was then virgin as you could only get it on special order. It is a shoddy website and I do think such a large organisation as Sinn Fein who undoubtedly make a fair bit of revenue out of it could look a redesigning it and also looking at their product range in some areas where the choice is sparse or indeed somewhat tacky.

well certainly the stuff like the fenian jewellry is god awful tat, i wouldn't wear or touch that stuff in a million years. i don't need to whack on a t-shirt (and they are tacky also) to be republican or walk about with a badge on like citizen smith. The only part of the site i generally look at is the book section as occassionally there is a good history book in there which is hard to find on other sites. Really, it does need serious redisgning and the tat needs removing - I disapprove of the stereotype that all Americans of Irish heritage are eejits but I do get the feeling a certain ammount of that stuff is aimed in that direction.

No self respecting Irish person would be caught dead wearing the tat on that site. I'd personally hand it all over to the Unionist community to burn on the biggest bonfire that they will make for the 12th if I had my way. They'd be doing us a favour. You can get better, tacky Irish t-shirts all over the place online. In fact, most online t-shirt sites have Irish t-shirt sections www.stylinonline.com/irish.html'Who's your paddy' is just about gettin' away with it, the rest are tack, as the vast majority of t-shirts in this genre are.

Absolutely, I don't wear political, national, sport or music oriented t-shirts as I consider them all tat and the ones on SF's website look like some knocked up the designes in five minutes while engaged in eating a sandwich, making a moblie phone calll and doing six other things at once. I very occassionally may wear a comic book oriented t-shirt and even then I feel that's a guilty pleasure but at least the better ones have artwork of some quality on them unlike the items on SF's store. Setanta at one point kindly sent me a remember the Hunger Strikers badge which I wore at a commeration for them here in London but I wouldn't wear that every day here as it's just been combative for the sake of it. Certainly I can think of much nicer t-shirts one could wear. Btw the Irish pub t-shirt in your link is taking the piss as the design of the girl is based on a character from a fairly old computer RPG where the makers did a special edition of the character dressed that way for St. Patrick's day. Certainly the unionist community is welcome to t-shirts like this one:- www.sinnfeinbookshop.com/catalog/images/bsts.jpgThat's hideous - no aesthetic sensibility to it at all - cheap and nasty looking.

The only Irish things you should be wearing is the football top.
Those T-shirts with someones country on it with some stupid slogan are worn by tourists, no one else.

now come on harry, bilk and wasp haven't done anything that bad to deserve that. That shirt could be a whole thread in itself focussing on where in the top ten of worst even t-shirts it falls. I don't even wear national football shirts either as I don't like football
