Why try to dictate our nationality. Our country has an anthem and that is GSTQ. Your country has an anthem which is something else. As long as you can see that we live in diffrernt countries i'm happy. ;D

Why try to dictate our nationality. Our country has an anthem and that is GSTQ. and Scotland has Flower of Scotland and Wales has .... something about Valleys, GSTQ was/is Englands anthem but NI never got round to getting one for themselves. Your country has an anthem which is something else. As long as you can see that we live in diffrernt countries i'm happy. ;D For now You'll be my countryman someday. ;D Well even though you led a strange life within republicanism, all things can be healed. Britain awaits you my friend and we will as you say be countymen ;D

"Our country", as if God save the Queen is the rightful anthem for me and that I should accept it because its there. It doesnt represent me in any way shape or form and its an issue that needs to be addressed, me and the other 40%. Dont want to sound like a dick about it but its time northern ireland got its own anthem if it is to stay in the UK, this situation cant go on forever, let the english keep god save the queen, they're the only ones that use the thing in the end!

Jim you can have whatever you like as your national anthem. GSTQ is my national anthem and i see it as my country anthem. You see different. I'm not telling you what is or isn't your anthem. Your a grown lad, choose for yourself. Its only you lot that keep telling me that i can't have GSTQ as my anthem, where have i said anywhere that you should have GSTQ? Its people telling me what is and isn't my anthem, not the other way around!!!

I'm not saying your anthem is anything else, I'm asking why youd not rather have an anthem for this country instead of using an anthem of another team.

when it comes down to it , its not tricky at all, there are about 5.5 million people on this island, of which about 800,000 only 14.5% have loyalty to the Queen of England, that means that 4.7 million - 85.5% people have loyalty to the Irish Tricolour. So when a team is representing Ireland what is the democratic decision? This isn't a 60:40, 55:45 split or a significant minority. It's 85.5%:14.5%. oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh roll on referendum The referendum where NI opts to stay part of the UK is it? Because that is what the result will be and you know it. How do you propose to magically change the demographics of NI? Outbreeding the unionists seems to be the only way. Progressive unionists such as Harry have no notion of ever voting in favour of a UI as far as I can see (dont want to put words in your mouth Harry, but I think I'm correct on this ), so how will you persuade more hardline unionists? I think SF will have to realise that unionists wont be persuaded. This generation of unionists anyway. Maybe in 30 years or so, memories of the conflict will have faded and they will be more open to persuasion. But even so, its only a small hope for you.

Majority rules only when it suits seems to be the case.

The anthem of one is the soldier song and the anthem of the other is GSTQ no matter whether anyone like it or not. N.Ireland is British and its antehm is GSTQ. IMO when Ireland rugby team plays in Dublin then the soldier song should be played, when playing in Belfast then GSTQ should be played. Wouldn't you expect any two countries who have a joint team to do the same out of respect for eachother?? Anyone who has a problem with GSTQ being played is just using petty bigoted excuses.

So in the event of a united Ireland Wasp would you accept amhran na bhfiann as the official anthem of th country because thats how it just is? Thats the way your talking about anthems right now.
In the end, honestly, I dont think they should play any anthem anymore, stick with the one that was made for them. The fans seem to like it.

If there was a UI then I would accept the fact that Ireland's anthem is the soldier song, it would never represent me but I would respect the fact that it is the countrys anthem whether I like it or not and who knows maybe the next generations would accept there Irishness and any issue with the soldier song would be gone. But that is for them to decide.
The irfu are playing a political game, for 50 odd years Irelands anthem was played and respected by all, yet GSTQ is offensive and shouldn't be played incase some are upset. Total lack of repsect and fairness to all. If they can't bring themselves to play GSTQ then they should never have played the soldier song. IMO the damage is done.

I'm actually very surprised to read that. I thought you'd be all out and against it and demanding a new one WELL IT DOES HAVE A GOOD TUNE TO IT! As said to me by a protestant mate of mine Every organisation fucks up, it shouldnt be something from stopping someone from supporting their country and island, I think they should play only Irelands call and leave the political anthems to football where there is no one team. The IRFU are the only organisation of the big three in Ireland (Football, GAA, Rugby) that have done the most to combat secterianism and the national questions from sport and in my opinion they are doing a very good job of it, problems will arise and bad decisions are made occasionally, they're still the only one to bother their arse!

OK you're right then What you gave me was a pile of shite setanta -How many unionists do you think will be 'converted' by reading through that Sinn Fein document? -How many do you think care about money? Would you change the sovereignty of your state if your citizenship and traditions were respected in the UK? NO! So why do you expect them to do the same? Where are the incentives to persuade unionists to vote for a UI? On the evidence above, ye won't convert 7 unionists, never mind 7%! Has any unionist here or on another forums been convinced of the merits of a UI yet? I'd be interested to know how unionists feel SF's plan for winning them over. IMO a lot more needs to be on offer before they would ever contemplate the possibility of a UI.

I could link you to any unionists comments on this website, I could link you to the DUPs site, etc. Fair enough. So you think some unionists could be bought off? I disagree, I think they value their sovereignty more. Upper class unionists are already financially secure so I cannot see them being interested in a UI. As for working class unionists, you have no chance. They are more likely to support hardcore loyalism. Ordinary unionists are probably the most opposed to SF given that they took the brunt of the conflict. John Bruton, the former Taoiseach? Would rejoin the UK for the right money? You have some strange notions about FG setanta. Neither of them are northen unionists either. Which northern unionists could be bought off? every unionist that I (and you probably) have spoken to. The ones that aren't caught up in politics will be far more likely to vote tribally and to support loyalism. Its the educated ones you should be going after Its probably going shite I have given my thougts on what a UI should look like with regard to unionist representation. It may not be what they want, but in my version, they might at least (grudgingly?) accept it as a genuine effort to include them in the state. Your (SF) version will never be acceptable to them. It doesnt make a genuine effort to include them. But my ideas have been shot down as pandering to the minority
