I only got round to listening to that again this afternoon. By which time it is no longer was the programme we spoke of but this mornings one. As I said I am assuming that you are truthful Wasp and it is never your intention to lie, but sometimes you misquote out of context and this puts a different meaning on things. I am disappointed that I never got back to it sooner as I had listened once all the way through but my attention was not fully focused on that listen. And the next time I listened only at the points I had heard and you had directed (1.20 - 1.30 - 1.37) and I did not hear Bonner say the word 'sectarian', but I reckon if you were good enough to directed me to something then you would not be silly enough not know that I would listen. So I do believe you here Wasp.
I think we must understand the context and understand the DC club. We must also understand the emotions that are thrown about at times like this. I have no doubt that some are saying the decision is sectarian. But we need to understand such emotions in the context. David Jeffery the Linfield manager made some remarks about Ballymena fans, was he playing the sectarian card? Now I do not want us diverted into discussing DJ again but just so we understand this sectarian card is always thrown up. What we must do here is analyze to see if it a justified claim or one we should dismiss as the usual guff.
Local sports writer Stephen Looney wrote a piece about DC, he was at the meeting in the DC. He quoted Bonner as saying "This is about perception. The IFA did not sit in a room and decide to keep 'the catholic team' out, but what is the perception?" Given that quote you must see that Bonner is not playing the 'sectarian card', but without the IFA having a transparent system, run by an independent appointed body the IFA leave themselves open to all sorts of suggestions.
