yep ,its weird but not magic.i still get urges to smoke especially when the pressure is on or things go wrong.but somehow its not such a big deal to deal with the urge now.I dunno I'd say that because I had to book the hypnosis session about 2 months in advance I was subconciously preparing myself for giving up-or else parting with the 450 euros did the trick ,Im not exactly sure but the upshot of it is that I havnt smoked a fag for nearly 2 months.I've heard of people who've got it done and say "it didnt work for me -i came out the door afterwards and had a cigarette".well all i can say is I could have done that too,Its not magic but it definitely helps you give up and stay off them(so far anyway, fingers crossed)

i used to be a really heavy smoker jim - about 40 a day at one point - i gave up about 7 years ago in disgust with myself - i just waited till i was on holiday for a week - threw the things in the bin and have not looked back since - i just stayed inside for that week decorating the house and made sure to have enough shopping to not need to go out and be tempted. i reckon i saved about somewhere between 1,500-2000 pound each ear from not smoking. Mind you if there's any person who is holier than thou its the ex-cigarette smoker like me!

I tried the hypnotic therapy and the lazer treatment and failed with both. But it is maybe for some and not for others. A GP whom I am working for said that there is a new tablet on the market which you take for 7 days and then that's it. She said it has had a 100% success rate so far at her surgery but it is still early days. Can't flamin remember the name of the tablet.

i say just chuck em in the bin still wasp - my dad was a chronic smoker when we i was a kid - it used to drive mum and me nuts as he smoked roll ups and the smell ogot on everything. He chucked them in bin one day when he was about 45 and has not smoked since - he felt better and looked years younger after a few months.

I agree BA but in reality I rely too much on them especially while tryng to kerb my drinking which I have had some success in recent months apart from the last few days where I was on a right bender. The fags go hand in hand with the drink and help me get over the days of suffering that follow a substantial binge.
I don't smoke in the house or the car when anyone else is their but even I notice the smell if I come home from work and I was smoking in the house the night before.

drinking i have little personal experience of , grandad and dad were both teetotal - grandad would only drink milk, fruite juice or water in fact as he disliked tea or cofffee. i drink the odd beer or guiness - my last drink was about 5 weeks ago on holiday with fiancee which was a bottle of white wine with dinner. i never developed much of a taste for drinking.

Drinking is fine when you can easily leave it because you know you have work in the morning, or something to do at home etc and you finish your drink then go home to do whatever you have to do. We all can stay out and get totaled but it is when you find it hard to leave and do without that it is a major problem. Sadly it catches you when you perhaps are vulnerable to temptation because of other things.

oh yes - and i don't mean any judgemental nature to creep into my points.I am lucky alcohol holds no interest for me - i know many people are not so lucky and it can easily get out of hand especially during stressful periods in life.

I gave up using patches. Took about 10 attempts mind you. Been off them nearly two years now officially. Unofficially, I have had a total of 10-12 while drinking(fags, not packets). Still get the urge. My wife smokes 1 a day and has done for the last 5 years. Keep telling her she should quit, but no, she likes her one a day. Made it harder for me to quit though, having fags in the house. Overall, it was the best decision I ever made. I feel better, dont get out of breath easily and look younger(according to my wife). Best thing though is the money. I still save it up and spend it. Got a new 42inch LCD TV a few months back with my fag money. (that was 9 months worth!!!!!!)

Well done Lochy, known my luck though I would find another hole for the money I was saving.
On the one a day to do with your wife, I met a guy up at the hospital a while back who was also in for surgery. When he gave up he took a heart attack soon after and was told it was the shock to the system from stopping the fags completely instead of gradually. Other complications arose which were more of a nuisance and his doctor apparently told him to have one a day to keep these irritations at bay for a while. I thought he was joking but his wife verified what he was saying.

My Da was diagnosed with late-onset diabetes in his 70s and had to give up fags, sugar and most fried food. Nearly killed the poor bugger, but he still likes me to smoke when I'm home. I'll never give them up. As my Da once told me "A quitter never wins and a winner never quits." Although given his own abnegation of Mother Nicotine, I sometimes wonder. And I'll NEVER, NEVER, NEVER (sorry Ian) give up the grog. It's been my one true friend through a life of shite.

yea WASP I heard about those "new tablets" I'll give them a blast when their available, quit for 3 months once using the patches the thing I hate most about smoking is the loss of smell, most people I know that have quit it took them quite a few attempts but they got there in the end, as for the drinking anyone watch THIS tonight?
