Age of consent in NI to be lowered

The age of consent in Louisiana is 17. We also have a law in place that gives an automatic death penalty for the rape of any child 12 and under.

Setanta, Louisiana currently has a man on death row for the rape of his 8 year old step-daughter, but he appealed (of course) and his case is now in the Supreme Court with disagreement that because a murder did not take place that it does not warrant a death penalty. However, Louisiana passed the law in 1995 to magnify the seriousness of molesting our children and it is standing by it. Three other states have followed suit and another is state has proposed the law to be passed also.
Another man was arrested a few weeks ago in Louisiana, and it is being reported that if found guilty, he will also receive the death penalty. So the law is still in place for now.

I do agree with you that there are some flaws in the system regarding age of consent laws. I remember a case a while back in another state where a young man of 19 fell in love with a 17 years old. The age of consent in their state was 18. He had a secure job and they planned to get married when she finished school, but when she became pregnant her family went mad. They forbid her to see him and had him arrested for statutory rape. Even though, later, the rape charges were dropped, he was labeled a child molester and had to register as such. The girl has since turned 18 and had their child (a little girl). They were still very much in love and wanted so badly to be married, but since he was considered, by law, to be a child molester he could not be near his own child. Because the job he had involved contact with children, he also lost his job. At the time they were fighting the courts to clear his record but were not getting much satisfaction.
