Yeah went there in June/July. Go to East Berlin and look out for the Brewers walking tour, 10 euro and you get to see probably everything in the East of the city and try and get it on the day where a guy called Terry does the tour (its about 8 hours long), hes from London and was a british diplomat during the cold war and knows more about Berlin than most Germans do.
I was only in the east though so I can only tell you about that.

The East is historic Berlin, the West is more modern but also more expensive. No huge 2 litre jugs of beer for 2.50 euro.

I was in Munich at Oktoberfest at the end of last month. 2nd time there. Great craic. My mate was in a queue outside the beer tent we were in and was told that the wait was 4 hours. So he just decided to chance his arm with the whole 'ah, go on, I'm Irish' routine. Surprisingly, the security guard let him straight in! Heard some horror stories in relation to English hooligans during the world cup. One nice young German couple we were talking to recieved a severe beating from them. The same guy stated that a mate of his was on holiday in England and had the shit bet out of him because of where he was from. I guess some people need to be told that the war ended over half a century ago. There was a crowd from Derry there too, indocturnating the security in the ways of hardline Republicanism. We only found out because a security guard came over to my brother and asked if he was Irish. When he replied, 'yes', the security guard yelled at him, 'Tiocfidh ar lá'. Wasn't impressed. Met another guy from Belfast whoose lived in Germany for 10 years. Good craic all round.

You lucky bastard, I wanted to go to Oktoberfest but none of my mates where up for it, "nah, nah, got classes". Not like they went to them anyway.
I watched a documentary last night about English hooligans in the world cup, absolutely mental, can't take lager louts anywhere, fat baldy men who's wives can drink more than them.
Be honest earl, you where singing tiocfaidh songs with german security guards, wherent you?

Berlin is cool-a real metropolis-its always been liberal arty cool place.During the cold war west germans could dodge the compulsary military service if they had an address in Berlin cos it had its own set of rules from the rest of the country. They had mad liberal sex clubs there in the 1930's and when i was there i was impressed by the adult way in which the population are treated by their government(unlike the way were treated here)for example theres no closing time in bars and clubs and everything fun isnt festooned with rules and regulations.A very impressive city with so much to see and do I;d say its a brilliant place to live.

There was some 'fields' sung, 'some say the divil is dead' sung and the modern remake of 'the wild rover' entitled the muff-diver was also sung. I also sang some Rammestein tunes which at one stage really got a load of German's very excited! Du, Du Hast, Du hast mich!
