What is usually burnt on the fires?? How widespread does it happen in Republican areas?? Is it still as Sectarian or as bigotted to burn Union flags as it is when we burn Tricolors?? Is this scene the norm for these fires?? If so then it seems we aren't as alien like as some would like to make out and it appears the other side can be as bad when it suits them?? www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtrQSTvbLSA

Harry it doesn't go with what the world is to see so facts like this are side stepped or avoided. I would be surprized if there was much to say on this but then again now that I have spoke people will want to prove me wrong.

It obviusly happens in some areas, but I dont think its very widespread. I respect the union flag as I do the flag of any foreign country.

Seen one the other day with 250 flags on it, remember years ago as a kid the RUC in 30 landrovers entered the estate with ladders and removed the flags, That night Shebeen played till 4am with 5000 people singing, 10 years ago all the fires stopped along with murals etc you could be mistaken that your not in NI ;D

I think bonfires are a thing of the past and have yet to hear a convincing arguement for them. There are other ways to express yourself and your community. I was intrigued by the idea proposed for Stoneyford, by Mark Harbinson. But he seemed to ruin that initative himself. But I never heard how that panned out, I must find out.

Do they steal them from loyalist estates or are they actually purchased?

Purchased by Loyalists, stole by Republicans.

I think bonfires on Halloween are alright, because that can be a family event and a whole lot of fun without all the political seriousness. I don't see the point of internment bonfires though. BTW talking about taking flags. Did the OO in Portadown ever wonder where the Union Flag went to from them top of their Lodge while they were all on Drumcree Hill? Cheeky! I hear our local LVF commander is still looking for his Ulster banner and half his front porch
