Never heard of lakotah before but I know there is a wee indie movement in alaska that has a bit of ground, as far as patriotic yanks go.

Lakota or Lakotah in this spelling is the name for the group of people we commonly call Sioux Indians (I refuse to use native American instead of Indian as the various tribes were there long before the continent was called America...Indian is still wrong but less annoying to me ) My father has a HUGE interest in the history of all the tribes and Indian nations so I grew up with loads of books around the house about it. In addition I was hopelessly besotted with someone who was part apache* for several years who was strongly in favour of armed revolt against the US! The difference here from what I've read on the site so far seems to be the people hoping to set up an independent state here wish to do so without violence and by using methods such as Gandhi adopted. It specifically say that NO paramilitary groups or groups espousing violence will be tolerated or approved by it. I've actually signed up to join their forum out of interest as this intrigues me. I used to correspond with a member of AIM when younger who was half-Irish and was born in Ireland but now lived in New Mexico who favoured links between radical groups within the Indian Nations and Irish republicans figuring they had a certain ammount in common.
*One would want to be careful though of dumping all the indian nations into one collective group mentally as they all have distinctive cultures.

Well having registered it is an interesting looking site - they have people from all around the world there so they are drawing some serious attention. They have significantly more members built up than say ourselves here (although given the fact we are sometimes trying to bridge a very large gap in outlooks here that may not be fair comparision) I will be having a perusal and asking the members can they detail their strategies and aims a bit further maybe.
Personally I'd support the idea as let us be frank the US govt doesn't exactly have a glowing record when it comes to honouring agreements with the Lakota or any other native indian movement. The only person I can think of whom actually kept his word was William Penn and he is pre-USA history (he's the guy Pennsylvania is named after) - and although he didn't agree with Indian's religously he never had any problems in seeing them as his absolute equals in all dimensions. Shame later leaders didn't learn from that...
