Because intervention would lead to more trouble / full scale riot.

How does any crowd gather for trouble?? How does a crowd gather for a riot?? Most people even when they saw a crowd wouldn't of phoned the peelers as it would be touting on your own.

More than likely fear would stop people ringing the cops in case it came back on them.

Talking about the RUC and the PSNI is different things. Talking about murdering them and ringing them up is two different things. Your trying to relate something that can't be related. You honestly think that how Unionists/Loyalists viewed IRA attacks on police officers has any bearing on how we use the police force??? Cheers for the introduction, at least i'll know next time what to do if i want to ring the cops

The police dont ask for your name at all actually. If you phone them they ask what the problem is, you tell them, and they say they're sending some people out to that area.
If you ring from the falls road, they also tell you to ring the local community watch too because they can get out quicker. but you'll not read that on the belfasttelegraph thats for sure.

I think as usual Unionist/loyalist comments are being twisted around. Now the RUC was our police force, smart wording to twist things. The RUC came into areas to protect Unionists from attack in the sameway they went into Catholic areas to protect them from attack. There will always be those who condemned them for everything and those who were thankful of them. What did you want the RUC to do??? Do you mean they shouldn't have went into Unionist areas or what? And because they did that makes them our police force.

Jim I also remember them calling ORANGEMEN and supporters orange bastards but that didn't make the RUC as a whole have that view.

Makes a difference when the force was 98% protestant and with its own orange hsll. How long was it 98% Protestant for? Sure Catholic officers were allowed to patrol near chapels so they could go in and attend mass but this was something not applied to Protestant officers.
