'What was his excuse for defying his Church hierarchy and not closing the doors when instructed to do so?'
Perhaps he just simply done what he thought was the right thing to do.

Does he have to say it if he thinks it?

Surely Wasp you are not suggesting that you can read minds now?? Read my post again. I wrote 'Perhaps he just simply done what he thought was the right thing to do.'

I think saying things out straight would be a good idea. In NI you either find that people say things too straight too often or we get loads of muffling and chewing around an issue with vague phrases that can mean anything to anyone. How did the church hierachy feel about this guy leaving these church doors open?

I read what you first said Wasp but you then said, "Does he have to say it if he thinks it?" So how do you know what he thinks, unless you can read minds??

I read what you first said Wasp but you then said, "Does he have to say it if he thinks it?" So how do you know what he thinks, unless you can read minds?? There is a big word in my post, it says IF he thinks it. So I did not say I know what he thinks.

So you admit you do not know what he was thinking, and he could have been thinking that he wanted to defy his church leaders, in fact he could be thinking anything.
Let us stick to facts and what is known and not delve into guesses.

But the facts were not known to me or Setanta so I offered a possibility for his reasons. I think we all do this in forums in one way or another. I also did not state what his reasons were as you first suggested nor did I claim to be able to read minds. You see it's all in what one takes from a post and sometimes the words that mean the most are the ones that are missed the most such as the word 'if' or 'perhaps' etc.

There is a crude expression used in Belfast that comes to mind - "If your Granny had b...s, she would be your Granddad", but she did not so she is not. And such statements phrased in such a way are equally as valid and useless. And in the make belief world of IF, anything is possible. I would sooner live in the real world, and understand the reality, rather than drift about in fantasy.

So can anyone find any facts as to why he kept the doors open??? WASP merely offered an opinion, HIS opinion on why, MAYBE the doors where kept open. He never said he could read minds or tried to indicate his views were fact. Speculation happens and WASP merely speculated. Are we no longer to speculate or give our views on why we think things happen???

Speculation can be useful if it going to be helpful to future events. Punters going into the bookies like tips and speculation. But people who want to form common ground with political opposites need to restict themselves in this area. But if you are not interested in looking to find common ground but to point score and scratch at the wounds and sore points, then such speculation is right up that street. I want to avoid such petty point scoring and fantasy point scoring. So it depends on your objective.
