news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6705637.stmHopefully Ian does not own any boarding houses like the other DUP'er who was moaning sometime back about having potentially to rent to gay people. Not that I believe everyone on my side woudl be all that comfortable with gay people. I can think of a few older family members whose reactions would be amusing.

Is he thick? He's involved in a department which is charged with promoting equality and bringing forward the Single Equality Bill, yet he shoots his mouth off like that, singling out a specific group and speaking about how 'repulsive' they are. So lets get the record straight. Since Stormont has been restored, we've had Unionist politicians veto an equality bill (instead of amending it or discussing it)and speaking to the media about being repulsed by their fellow human beings. This is a great way to promote the Union. For us. Keep up the good work Unionist politicians. Have a go at some immigrants, and you'll be doing us a big favour.

I do not thick he is thick, it is a case that he is insensitive to peoples feelings. And shows the same insensitivity that Unionism has shown towards immigrants and catholic nationalists.
Ulster Unionist adviser Stephen King who is openly gay, has said that these views are well known. But at a time when Unionism should be making political gain from SF failings in the southern election, the DUP gives another leg up to SF.

He's entitled to his personal view, like everyone should be. Difference is that he is expected to represent other people, if i say something, i'm saying it representing me and only me. That man has been elected and it ceratinly wasn't for being homophobic Like to many of our boys, they just open the big trap first without even considering what damage they will do. In all honesty i find the act of man with man rather disgusting and stomach churning, thats because its just not my cup of tea. 2 woman and its a whole different ball game ;D ;D so i'm a complete hypocrit!!!! However disgusting i find it though they have their rights just like i do and they don't need elected representatives bashing them for no reason!!! Ian Óg is entitled to his own personal views, but he should keep them for the right ocassion Harry. Public figures should also have their own 'professional views'. We had a politician down here recently (can't remember his name) who came out in public in an interview and condoned drink-driving!! That was his personal view, drink-driving is good. Obviously, some personal views are not correct, and are better off being kept to ones self. I think this guy had to resign. Personally, I'm against the whole male gay thing myself personally, but what happens in other peoples houses is of no concern to me. They should have the same rights as everyone else and should be treated like anyone else. I mean Ian Óg could have phrased it better. Obviously he meant to offend and doesn't care. Instead of saying that he was repulsed (a very strong negative word), he could have said just that he didn't approve. That's a fair answer, and one that wouldn't have received so much bad press. How much harder was it for him to say, "I don't approve of that behaviour myself". Nothing wrong with an answer like that. He's an eijeet!!

as one who has always been bemused at the fact that some people take sexual pleasure in using their dangly bits with other consenting adults in a way different from my own i remain puzzled by attitudes like this one Ian Og is displaying. I could care less if someone is gay or not to be honest. As the infamous servant is supposed ot have said as Oscar Wilde's trial, 'so long as they don't frighten the horses' what is the difference? That said Ian definitely has the right to disagree with that but as pointed out he has shown no consideration for either the party he lead's and it's public image or the position he occupies. With regards to the former perhaps he need no show no consideration as his attittude might not be one that would alienate him from any of his electorate or cost him votes. This seems a reasonable supposition based on previous DUP party members and the attitudes they have expressed towards homosexuality, (although in fairness despite SF's public stance of been tolerant I doubt too many nationalist votes would go astray if a party member was to be less than PC on the same matter) but it once again shows unionist parties not understanding how to play the media game as Hot Press was obviously overjoyed to get a quote like to that stick in it's pages I am sure.

Maybe Ian Óg should have a read of this www.nio.gov.uk/new-scheme-will-support-victims-of-hate-crime-hanson/media-detail.htm?newsID=14280“Hate in all its forms is wrong. Attacking or verbally abusing someone because of their sexuality, race, political opinion, religion or disability is not acceptable. “The Government is fully committed to addressing the problem and is working in partnership with a range of organisations to combat hate crime in all its manifestations. “Anyone who has been subject of a racist, sectarian, homophobic, religious or disablist attack should feel safe where they live. This new scheme means victims will have access to personal and home security measures when a hate crime incident has occurred at or near their home. “This scheme will provide support 24 hours a day because it is important that victims can access practical help so that they can live free from fear and prejudice. We have all witnessed the devastating effect of hate and this is a direct response to those types of attacks. I am confident this scheme will provide reassurance to victims and help prevent future attacks.” The Police Service of Northern Ireland fully supports this scheme and are committed to tackling all forms of Hate Crime in our society. Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris, PSNI Criminal Justice Department stated “Each of the 29 police districts have dedicated Hate Incident & Minority Liaison Officers and these officers will work with our colleagues in Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Community Safety Partnerships in delivering this scheme to victims of Hate Crime”. ACC Harris added “I urge anyone who is a victim or witnesses any hate crime incidents to report it to police.”I cannot argue with this.

We had a politician down here recently (can't remember his name) who came out in public in an interview and condoned drink-driving!! Wasnt it Bertie himself that said something about driving home after a few pints of bass? I wonder what he would say to being called Ian og? Ian óg agus Ian mór.
