Now, now, Blueangel, take heart. Overseas, many have never heard the voice of DOD and remain blissfully ignorant of him and his mysterious ways. (Unless they are in the coffin-dodging age group of course.) Whenever I think of that vile creature I play Dearg Doom really loud to remind how electrifyingly brilliant Irish music can be. Sometimes takes a few plays, though, I must admit....

as a guitar player the initials DOD make me think of this company:- www.dod.com/fxpedals/fxnav/fxpedals_16off.jpgI am playing Lucinda William's last album at the moment here - and someone was introducing me to all sorts of interesting Spanish and Latin american bands - which was er, interesting when one of the bands started playing 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' with lyrics in Spanish by sheer coincidence.

I heard a fantastic album recently, think it was called Salsa Celtica, which was a blend of old-style Cubanos and Scopts playing a devastating blend of slasa and traditional. It does things to Auld Lang Syne you wouldn't believe. I love it when you hear something like that. Much liek the Dropkick Murphys' version of Amazing Grace, which dissolves into fuzztone guitar. Genius.

A mention of Dropkick Murphys makes me want to throw up. Infact, I'm not into Irish music at all, the only Irish band I listen is Stiff Little Fingers these days.

Fair enough Setanta, NZ is better known for its sporting and scientific endeavour than for the arts anyway. ALthough as a transplanted Irishman, I get the best of both worlds! Still, i stand by my comments that the Eurovision is shite, always has been shite and alweays will be shite, regardless of who wins it. And I say that not as an Irishman or a Kiwi, but as a musician.
