I see Ireland came 24th out of 24 in the final round tonight, with 5 points. I don't watch it just caught the result on the tv. My only hope is that Britain finishes below, but tonight Britain came 23rd with 19pts. And 12 of them from Malta, now I am trying to work out what political motive Malta has to give Britain the highest score.

Didnt even watch it.
Its funny, Britain has the best bands in the world (the list is endless) but instead they put out shite for eurovision.

i think it's some kind of disease with that joke of a competition. All the countries involved put out out utter shite, if you had never heard good italian or spanish music say and your introduction to music from those countries was via the EV contest would you ever listen to any more Time for it to be re-jigged maybe -but the nagain a lot of the people who do watch do so for the sheer campness of the thing i think.

It made the news down here with the introduction: "32 countries united in poor taste and abysmal ballads...." I love it that it makes the news here, not so I can find out who won, but because of the fact that every yerar the TVNZ news parades the poxiest tripe in musical history across our screens, so we can laugh at Europe.

Should just let me represent Ireland (or the UK for more fame and cash). I'd well win it.

a lack of famous bands mind you is better than no talent masquearading as talent like in the EU (and once again can someone please, please tell how the hell Israel qualifies as part of Europe for this thing!)

Now I read the newspapers this morning and got some more facts. Ireland's 5points came from Albania. They must be looking a loan or something from Ireland. Ireland gave Britain 7points (typical fawning only to be reciprocated by a kick in the teeth). Sebia won with 268 points. Ukraine came 2nd. A Russian girl band came 3rd (I assume they represented Russia, is Russia in Europe too now?).

i met the ukrainian winner of a few years ago in person through a friend, she pointed out she only performed a number designed for titillation knowing it would probably score highly and it was nothing like her usual style of music. Which was true as I then saw her playing and it was more like early Joni Mitchell than what she did at the EU contest. Just her and an acoustic guitar and one small PA system. This is part of the problem with the thing, all camp flash and glitz but no content.
the russian girl band is bloody awful and considered a joke in russia btw - the russians used to have their own equivalent to the EU but that has disssappeared since the fall of communism - it was a bit more serious - the problem is it was ploddingly serious and apparently all lyrics/songs etc. were checked for possible subversive content or hidden messages and had to be deemed ideologically sound.

Ireland should bring back J-Lo aka Johnny Logan!! Seems like he's too busy hanging around with Belgian rappers these days. Look! If anyone is wondering why I've gone picture crazy today, it's because it's an incredibly quiet day in work. Mmmm. Cherry bakewell.....

Ah Jasus, Setanta, are you really trying to tell me that winning a Eurovision is in any way related to having musical talent? I'd rather have no famous musicians (although I imagine even you have heard of Neil Finn? Split Enz? Crowded House? Daniel Bedingfield?) than be involved with that sort of shite. Do you like listening to showbands and Big Tom as well? A few Daniel records in the ould collection is there? :-)

please don't mention the o'donnell creature - please - i was trying to persuade people that irish music had lots of good things about it the other week, so i pull out all the better folk and traditional records and then someone points out nothing can make up for o'd****ll and I had to concede defeat
