Not sure if anyone still visits to reply but I would like to ask a genuine question, what do people think Brady should do as primate of all ireland?
If we could can we leave out the ological differences or the British/Irish question so our views are not contaminated with political viewpoints etc.

Hi WASP.
I think Brady is a sociopath to be honest. He doesn't seem to care about or even be interested in the suffering he allowed to happen.
Like a lot of senior RC people and politicians its all about staying in power and saying whatever will get you past a particular moment.
I don't know what its like in Northern Ireland but down here its mainly the elderly who attend mass. The Church is dead in twenty years.
Years ago, the Vatican was seen as an irritant that could be ignored. Now we realise they shouldn't be ignored and should be brought to book like the NAZI's were in Nuremburg

I have to agree with both of you, it is absolutely disgusting how the church has dealt with victims yet protected the abusers. Dont know if you saw the spotlight programme about it, the last words were heart wrenching when one victim met another after many years, put his arm around him and said 'I thought I saved you'.
Up here there are those who have stopped going to mass but from what I see it hasnt had any affect or very little in republican/nationalist areas where the crowds still flock. I was invited to attend my nephews holy communion recently and I refused to go and I refused to let my children attend. Ok my own beliefs would have made it difficult for me as I only attend weddings and funerals in chapels but going to witness my nephew while not taking part in the actual service is something I could have done so I dont want anyone accusing me on religious grounds.
My reason was pure and simple I firmly beleive that all memebrs of a church should stop attending until those who have rraped and abused children etc are dealt with and those who protected and covered up for these abusers are dealt with. That would go right from the bottom to the top and I would say the same for my own church or any church, religious diufferences should not be used as a defence by any church when someone from a differenct faith speaks out. One guy in the Nolan show said it was all a Protestant/British conspiracy.
Brady had the namses and addresses of children that were abused and were being abused but claims he done all he was meant to. Most of his parishners interviewed in Armagh supported him. Shocking to say the least.

So here we are 2014 the gentleman is still alive and well and only last week one of the victims of Cardinal Brady lack of action had a book printed. What a real eye opener to this man and how the Church reacted to the virus running rampant through it. Unfortunately the Catholic Church has always seen itself as that, the CATHOLIC church, not a member of the CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF CHURCHES. This virus has and will continue to corrupt and infect all shades of life on this planet but one would expect that a church would have dealt with it differently. Lets hope that the Present Pope will try and hopefully succeed in changing the attitude of the Catholic Church and thereby ridding it of the arrogance and downright corruption which is has carried for the past century or more. The founder of the christian church would expect and demand nothing less.
