I must admit previously I was rather skeptical about some of the claims of the save Tara campaign, as there did not seem to be much evidence to support their claims. And the planned route of the M3 seemed to be far enough away as to be no threat to Tara.
But this group was vocal enough and did put the pressure on government ministers. So it was rather ironic after one FF minister turned the first sod of the motorway the next day another FF minister ordered the work to stop after a major archaeological site the size of a couple of football pitches was discovered.
Now Fine Gael has expressed surprise the same as myself that after more than 500 archaeologists hired at the cost of €30million, managed to miss a four-acre site. I would be looking for my money back from any professional hired that failed to highlight this.
And now with the election date set this could be a hot potato for all politicians.
