Celtic fan is injured in violent clashes



A female Celtic fan was injured by a flare after violence broke out during a pre-season friendly match.

The incident was one of several flashpoints which led to 20 arrests as the Glasgow giants took on Lincoln City on Saturday.

Two Scots fans, Stuart Stanley, 32, of Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, and Adam Pollock, of Pollok, were held in custody over the weekend before being charged with fighting in the street and freed on bail yesterday.

Both will appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on August 17.

Five fans, including the girl, were injured as a result of the violence and all received hospital treatment before they were released.

Police said a St George’s flag was set on fire outside the Golden Cross pub before the match started and tensions were also heightened by pro-IRA chants.

A smoke grenade was set off and, after the game, there were a number of scuffles involving rival fans.

More than 1000 Celtic fans travelled to the Sincil Bank Stadium to see their side cruise to a 4-1 victory.

Twelve of those arrested were locals and the remaining eight are believed to have been visiting Celtic supporters.

PC Andy Pearson said: “There was some disorder outside the Golden Cross pub and some after the match.

“A lot of it came from the inflammatory nature of the songs from the Celtic fans. Many of the incidents were fuelled by alcohol.”

Before kick-off, police had to deal with fights between two Celtic fans and another brawl in the away end of the ground. Police were also called to several fights in the town’s High Street.

Lincoln City are managed by ex-Celtic striker Chris Hutton.

Cheryl Cole death threat man who said he would blow up Celtic Park jailed

A man who threatened to kill singer Cheryl Cole, kill young girls in a primary school and blow up Celtic football stadium in a sectarian attack was jailed for two years yesterday.

Alan Linton (32) also admitted threatening to carry out a terror attack on Glasgow Airport.

The threats were made in a series of letters from Linton, from Carluke, Lanarkshire, last year.

Judge Lady Smith said: “The threats you made were very upsetting and distressing and could not be dismissed out of hand.”

She singled out the letter to Celtic Football Club and to the primary school.

She said: “In the letter to Celtic, you were threatening to blow it up, perpetrate terrible things that would happen to supporters of Celtic Football Club, referring particularly to their religious persuasion.”

The letter warned that supporters' “flesh would rise up”, Lady Smith told the court, leaving people and priests “screaming”.

The letter to the school saw him threaten to “splatter the blood” of young girl pupils all over the playground, she said.

The letter to the airport was signed “DOS”, which the court had previously been told stands for Disciple of Satan.

The court had heard that a letter to the Scottish Exhibition and Centre in Glasgow included the threat to kill singer Cole.

In sentencing, Lady Smith said that two months of the sentence was down to the religious aggravation of the offence.

The only reason you posted it was because there is a mention which you duly underlined concerning some celtic fans singing sectarian songs. Dont suppose that that had anything to do with me pointing out that loyalist bands do that annually under the guise of 'culture', i wonder?

Lincoln City are a scumbag club, but thats besides the point I suppose. Their fans love that EDL stuff. You know, football hooligans dressed in black shouting about the muzzies and sand black persons to go home.

Think the whole point of my post was the fact that all to often on here celtic supporters get blamed for nothing or very little and its always the big bad rangers supporters that do all the wrongdoings. As I have said before this is one of the reasons I do not bother with Scottish football because to much of it is hijacked by bigots and excused by many other 'ordinary' supporters.

Well considering I'm a life long Celtic fan I'm obviously going to despise Rangers and point out their wrongdoings.

That, and they have a track record for bad behaviour and warnings from UEFA while Celtic are commended by said organisation.

Jim they are as as bad as eachother and I dont mean the real true fans, you know who I mean and the type of behaviuor displayed. You can single out rangers all you wish but I can also point at celtic, crap football in a crap league most of the time.
