"Traffic disruption could be experienced virtually anywhere in the city and motorists encountering such delays are requested to exercise patience and follow police directions". Such is the directive from Strathclyde Police for this Saturday. This is the Marching Season, as they call it in that unhappy northern province of Ireland. The reason for the traffic disruptions tomorrow is that the Orange Walk is on.
The Orange Walk is when the rednecks of Lanarkshire parade in the streets of culture city and attempt to provoke a sizeable number of citizens of Glasgow into sectarian fury. Prior to the importation of so-called Protestants from Belfast during the First World War there was virtually no Orange Lodge at all.
Why, last year (1990) Father Tom Connolly, spokesperson for Archbishop Winning, spoke kindly of the three hundredth celebrations of the Battle of the Boyne. He wished the Orangemen a good day and said the colour and vivacity were nothing less than grand. The Orange Lodge and their silly walks are not much of a centre for battling now.
Well they bloody are by me. It was but a year back that I was forced to watch this collection of in-bred lumpen scum wearing cheap suits taunt other citizens in the street outside my house. I saw them in their filthy finery. ****ing openly in the streets, cursing as they poured cheap fortified wine down their throats. I saw their womenfolk, the wee girls in their washed-out Dress Stewart kilts and the ladies fat with cholesterol and mindless bigotry. The men are thinner generally, with the razor faces of Northern Irish Planters, lips twisted in Belfast Presbyterian determination, the determination of those who know that Ulster will fight and Ulster will be right. Nasty and uneducated. Unwashed and cheap.
There is an undeniable attraction to these Orange parades. There is verve and colour and the sort of vigour, which those with no brains can exercise. But you cannot cross the street when this less than golden horde take to the streets. The police don't really police it and permit half-witted Orangemen in sashes and bowler hats calling themselves marshals or some other lunacy to stop citizens from going about their rightful business. I have seen the hostility of the police when they are on a trade union march.
But the Orangemen have only one objective. That is to insult Roman Catholics. They have no other reason for living at all. Why the marches are permitted at all is beyond bloody reason. Were, for instance, a group of redneck whites to parade against Pakkies, Darkies, Jew Boys, Tallies, Teuchters, or Poufs, there would be an outcry the like of which would have the paraders jailed for heaven's sake. But these people are allowed - indeed their human rights to enact their nonsense are extolled - to parade in an open display of incitement against others in the same community.

I dont like the KAT either, I find it disgusting but as with many young people they are ill educated or do things because they see it as funny when its not. No leeside I dont see McAleeses point at all. Two young silly girls whos family may have been nowhere near them, whos family may have been very annoyed if they saw this etc etc so it does not back up her point at all. If you want to see bitter sectarian hatred which ould prove inherited hatred and bigotry over the twelth then try going to Ardoyne or somewhere like that. |

Is an order of nuns sectarian as well as discriminating against males? Because you dont agree with a certain organisation, are at times obsessed with that organisation, despize that organisation etc etc it doesnt mean you can throw in they are sectarian by nature to suit your own opinion and agenda. |
