We'r two weeks away from the referendum on the same treaty we rejected last year. Does anyone have a different opinion on the treaty this time around? I vote "Yes"last time. I resent having to vote again. I might not vote this time. I almost hope the thing flops again. my opinion

I think it is a sad day for the irish people when they voted for this. I think it was unfair that they had to vote for a 2nd time within a year which to me is hardly democratic because would the gov. have stopped until a yes vote was passed?

So they keep going until they get a yes vote?? I wouldnt want to be part of anything that doesnt accept a valid and fair poll if the government kept on having referendums until they got the answer they wanted.

Not the Government. It has to have a referendum. The constitution is higher than the Government, it is the final say. "Every proposal for an amendment of this Constitution shall be initiated in Dáil Éireann as a Bill, and shall upon having been passed or deemed to have been passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas, be submitted by Referendum to the decision of the people in accordance with the law for the time being in force relating to the Referendum." Article 45, 2 www.taoiseach.gov.ie/upload/static/256.htmThe Lisbon Treaty is a constitutional amendment of article 29 or something.

Well then fuck the EU, if they want countires to keep voting over and over agian until they get away then all peoples should vote no, Ireland has made a major mistake on this alone.

I dont know where I stand on it. I'm in favour more integrated EU but not particularly this type.
What I don't like about it is they wouldnt take no for an answer; although to be fair, it was extremely close the first time, something like 2% of the vote off a yes, so to say Ireland didnt want it in the first place is a half-lie.
Either way its happening now, the UK dont have the decency to ask us to vote on it because they know it'll be a no vote, and eastern european countries that are yet to ratify it will say yes.

I understand now Setanta, I think it was really lousy of the Irish gov. to have a second vote so soon after the first one.

I'd say the travel tax will go first. O'Leary has been banging on about that for ages.

Well setanta I find all that sickening to the stomach, if I was in the mainland I would vote tory and while more right wing with my politics I think any government, party, politicians etc should be kicked into touch going by the abvoe. It sounds like corruption to the core.

Jim you cannot blame the current tory party for any mistakes made in the past, secondly I am sure labour just like all political paties need no lessons in ripping people off.

WASP, if you remember when Paisley Jnr resigned, I was very suprised and gave him the credit he deserved for keeping his office free from croynism smeers. It set a precedent that will hopefully be continued. But we don't have that precendent in the Dail. We have 30 years of FF lining their pockets. You certainly did
