Hello All,its been a while -I see Setanta and Wasp are still in conflict-its a bit like iraq and iran theyve been going at it since time began .I have an issue which kinda bothers me and its Farmer's markets.Who uses them? What are they? and what do we understand by them? To me these so called markets are typical of the Bullshit we have to suffer in Ireland today.I get people telling me that these are run by the local and that this is some sort of peoples reaction to the big supermarket chains-I dont believe it.I dont think these places are what they are pretending to be-they are ridiculously expensive and are endeavouring to pass themselves off as the type of local producers markets which exist in every town and village in france.I think the fact that most ordnary people choose lidl and aldi over these places proves that they are a sham-and nobody seems to want to expose this cos its so politically correct to shop in these rip off markets. What do people here rekon?

Dunno about Ireland but I buy fruit and vegetables from stalls and markets and theyre definitely cheaper. Can buy strawberries and all that stuff for £1 a carton, you're looking at £2-3 in Asda.
What I dont like about meat in supermarket butchers is that they cut off rotten pieces and sell the fresher core of the meat for weeks. I buy all my meat frozen.

Well when we are talking about a report concerning what has happened in recent decades and someone throws in Cromwell to try and back their points it just shows how ridiculous this has got, maybe I should throw in the history of the catholic church or the 1641 massacre or maybe we could talk about the vikings or something. But I decided if anyone goes back centuries to try and back their point concerning a damming report about what has happened and what is happeneing then it makes it all the sadder and it is not worth a reply. Anyway back on topic.
I went to a local farmers market a few weeks back and I cant wait to get the chance to go again. The home grown vegetables were lovely and the carrots were massive. As well as that there was a selection of live poultry for sale such as bantams etc as well as goats and ducks.
There was a bbq and then stalls selling home baked cakes and tarts. I really enjoyed it as did my young son. When I am in England I always buy in the markets at stalls etc, fruit and veg etc is alot cheaper as Jim said.

I'd say the rip off markets I'm ranting on about are only relevant in the RoI as there is clearly an established market culture in the UK and in NI-as for oliver Cromwell maybe he meant jamie oliver!

Cromwell? Wha? Didnt think his middle name was Sainsbury. Where did you pull Cromwell from? I was replying to do with slideshow saying about me and setanta still being at it and I was referring to setantas reply about the ryan report where he scraped the barrel and brought up Cromwell. Being a Protestant and a loyalist means I cannot comment on the ryan report without being called a disgrace due to sectarian and bitgoted attitudes here.
