i remember reading a year or two ago that part of the falls was designated a new gaeltacht area, particularly the cĂșlturlann where my old school use to be based and was an orange lodge years ago! how is it going these days? has there been any progress in promoting gaeilge in belfast in that area outside of the two schools? ive not been back in a while properly to know. found myself frustrated today trying to read an irish website and could only get the gist of it, im losing it more and more as the weeks go by and not speaking it time to pick up my old school text books i think.

I know the feeling Jim, I go to my kids schools and the Irish teachers think I am great. But I wonder are they patronising or just shit at Irish. As I know I have lost more than I still have, I have no problems understanding when it is spoken at me, but reading and replying the way I would want rather than constructing some round the world reply. On the Gaeltacht quarter, that is still developing but the rate of progress is snail pace. There was something about extra money recently, but I can not remember what is was.

Its about time the Govt started funding the language properly, the language has been carried on the backs of the community for decades. It cant continue.
But yeah, I can understand what someone is saying to me (donegal dialect anyway) but reading it is getting harder and harder and replying is as bad. Maybe its time I took 2 weeks off and went to the Gaeltacht in Donegal and speak nothing but Irish haha.
