I hope everyone knows me well enough here to know I wouldn't take the piss trying to use this as a sales site. But I am about to embark on online auctioneering of excess goods here and if anyone has any tips let me know. I don't need the cash but I do need the space and rather than sell these items via newspaper ads I'm trying this. Any one who has done so before who has tips let me know. I am flogging off about 10 guitars, amplifiers, effects processing units, possibly tv and dvd player, old games etc etc here over the next few weeks. I haven't stuck my selller links in because that would be blatant advertising -if anyone here has an interest let me know and I'll PM it rather than abuse the board.
But I'd value some feedback - I'm trying to make sure there are at least 5 or 6 good quality photos, I've set up a paypal account, trying to write accurate grammatically correct descriptions which are honest for the buyer. Any other tips I've missed from more experienced people would be welcome.

BA first of all you aren't trying to sell for shops, you are selling your own personal items so I don't see why there would be a problem listing stuff on say a new thread or something. I think honesty in what you are selling is by far the best policy. If someone buys off you and it is exactly what it says on the tin then I am sure they will say to there friends and perhaps others will also buy off you.
How will you deal with giving personal info such as posting addresses out? I am not being funny here with you but there will be those from the otherside so to speak who would be genuinely worried about giving info like that out.

Well I'd give it to you actually - despite our constant barneys with each other I do not think you have any desire to beat heck out of me. If anyone was interested I could provide a link to the auction and post it to them without revealing my own address. And I am trying to be super honest - ok I'll post my first feeble attempt then, don't all laugh at once guys :- cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270274354815&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:GB:1123

Well I'll be doing some more- incidentally if there is anyone here with young kids or so forth who want to learn guitar let me know and I have one guitar that is ok but I don't think I'd get more than about twenty quid for it maximum online - it is of course left-handed but if anyone has a left-handed friend/relative/girlfriend who would like to learn I'll supply it for cost of post and packaging only as it has been sitting in a case for 2 and a half years now. If no-one takes me up on that offer it's going to the local Boy Scouts charity shop. Decent enough guitar for a beginner - a Fender DG 10. about £80 or so new.

Well that's gone well so far - productive evening -300 quid for one guitar coughed up as one guy said could he cut to the head of the queue by snapping one instrument up as he has been looking for one for ages. Having looked at the average selling price for the item and concluded it's only about a tenner less than I'd get by waiting a week and a half for the auction on it to conclude I said yes.

On my way to London with my baseball bat! Actually I might be interested in buying some guitar accessories but I'm right handed! I'll see what the craic is when I get paid. Hi Jim lots of guitar straps and pedals and stuff going as well here - I swear to god I hadn' t realised how much shite there was around the place - there is stuff I've even forgotten I owned. The idea is to shift it because the missue and I are thinking of going off to our own home and I don't want to be carting this stuff around for the next million years as I am a hoarder by nature. It runs in the family my dads has f***g bus tickets from trips around Dublin in the 1950's for heaven's sake. And I hope my missus is not like her mum as time goes on as she is even worse than that...

I use a red Epiphone SG, nothing amazing picked it up for £200 about a year ago, has no strap so I'd not mind taking a look at a few of those if you have them lying around. Need to pick up a capo soon but I'm not sure if theyre a one size fits all type, never bought one before, well, a good one anyway.
What pedals have ya got? I'd definitely be interested in taking a look at some stuff when i get paid .

nothing wrong with Epiphone - I have a left-handed Epiphone Les Paul just for mucking about on and I probably play it more than the other guitars to be honest. Capos are generally an one size fits all deal but be wary with some types as they can chip the wood on the neck if used carelessly. I have flanger pedals, distortion pedals, several wah wahs - a wah-wah with a univibe clone* built into it and one VOX multi effects unit. And for those who do not know what an uni-vibe pedal is these two samples by Jimi below show it been used as it's most often associated with him (original ones are gold dust and the bidding on one of those would go to probably over a grand ) Subtle use of a univibe :- www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWaLmuF3AlIEr, less subtle use of univibe:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV74PsUo1dc&feature=related (and also just a fantastic bit of guitar playing - when I can play at 1 per cent of this level I'll say I can play the instrument)

I'd do you a dunlop crybaby wah-wah for £30 - as they go new for about £70 or so I'd say that's reasonable, between £30-40 seems to be about what they sell for on ebay I noticed after lookin at a few. I'd post it to you if you like Jim as trekking to London would be a major pain. You could always pay with a cheque or paypal or similar. Jesus I hope Setanta is not killing me for doing a deal here...
