The Olympic torch is under protection as it makes its way to its destination. Storming the streets of cities around the world, protesters have followed the Olympic torch on its way to Beijing and demanded China address human rights issues. Many of those shouting through bullhorns, waving Tibetan flags and trying to snuff out the torch call for nothing short of a full-scale boycott. How do you feel about the attack on the torch and the possibility of a boycott?

The Olympic torch is under protection as it makes its way to its destination. Storming the streets of cities around the world, protesters have followed the Olympic torch on its way to Beijing and demanded China address human rights issues. Many of those shouting through bullhorns, waving Tibetan flags and trying to snuff out the torch call for nothing short of a full-scale boycott. How do you feel about the attack on the torch and the possibility of a boycott? How do I feel hmmmmmmmm. I am full of mixed emotions on this. Firstly, I love sport, secondly I hate those who bring politics into sport. While I sympathise with the Tibetans, and by the way, those in China itself who suffer under the communist regime, I believe that sports should not be dragged into the political gutter. Wherever the torch began it's journey, (hitler or whoever) it has become a symbol of the games, and it's too late to change that. China should never have been given the games in the first place with their human rights record, but denying them it would, in a way, be dragging politics into sport I suppose. Athletes and sports people around the world train very hard for 4 years to prepare themselves for the games. Boycotting would be hurting them more than it would ever hurt any government. Boycotting the games would be hurting the whole world not just the country to be boycotted. If we allow this behaviour, then no country is safe. Show me the country that do not have someone somewhere who hates them, rightly or wronlgy.
