The number of trips to Ireland taken by British residents increased by 26% in March compared to the same month last year.
The statistics would appear to show that the strength of the euro against sterling is not having an adverse effect on British tourists' plans to visit Ireland.
New figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that 365,700 travellers crossed the Irish Sea in March, bringing the total to 849,500 for the first three months of the year. Advertisement
The rise in British visitors, up 10% over the first quarter, has helped the total number to trips to Ireland grow by 9.9%, and compensates for falling figures from other categories.
Trips from other parts of Europe have fallen 6%, North America in down 8.6% and Other Areas have dipped 6%.
Meanwhile, overseas trips made by Irish residents increased by 14% to 666,500 in March.
