Government ministers from throughout Ireland and Britain are gathering in Dublin this morning for a meeting of the British-Irish Council.
The body was set up under the Good Friday Agreement to promote the development of harmonious relationships between the people of the Irish and British isles.
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, and Stormont First Minister Ian Paisley will be among those attending today's meeting.
Ministers from the British Government, the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands will also be in attendance.
The council meetings are designed to discuss issues of mutual interest to all the represented jurisdictions.
The misuse of drugs is expected to be high on the agenda at today's gathering.
