I think they got the name of the department wrong. It should be the Department of Unionist Culture, Arts and Leisure. I'm telling you that this game of tit for tat is doing no-one any good. I heard on the radio the other day that the old form of sectarianism is over and has been replaced with Glasgow-like sectarianism. This cold war has to stop. This is no better than SF whinging about mugs and statues. It's a deliberate attempt to suppress another communities culture. As we've seen, this kind of thing has already stirred up Irish America who have stated that they will not recommend any outsourcing from the U.S. to NI.

I think the whole thing is bollocks and bothsides trying to win one over the otherside. One in five kids here are in poverty, wouldn't it answer those in power better to try and bring these kids out of poverty. Today I was at a charity base where most living there were drug addicts or alchoholics, the average age was 22 and they take it in turns to buy the drink or gear. They can't afford the gear so they commit crime to fund their habits.
2 of the girls there were heavily pregnant with useless partners who could just be summed up as useless uncaring bastards. What kind of love and affection are these kids going to get or are they going to be shipped from home to home and end up maybe like there parents. This is what we ALL need to be focusing on instead of any other language.
But not up here, bothsides would rather try and score political gain over there enemies. Bothsides are probably searching the net to see what they can object to next instead of trying to REALLY help those in need.
Wankers the lot of them.

It's typical of the DUP to do that. Hopefully the SDLP or SF take that department next period.
Wasp, money for homeless, poverty, drug abuse and rehabillitation come from other departments, money is set aside from it by Robinson himself so the money allocated to Poots should be used in language funding. We are not short on cash by any means so your argument would mean abit more if it was another department, but not "culture", they have their own budget.
I think its good that Ulster-Scots is getting more funding, but I don't think its great that its at the detriment of Irish especially when, as said in the article, language activists have had to fight for every single penny of funding. I became bilingual because of how hard people fought for funding, so it means a lot to me that this doesn't go ahead by any means.

I thought that was our day will come in Irish?? No!! nah mate you added an unneccesary 'h' funnily enough, tiocfaidh ár lá doesn't actually make much sense, its like saying "our day come", but suppose it sounds better than shouting "beidh ár lá linn"

Wahey we agree on something. I agree but the amounts are simply ridiculous and TBH the dupers are playing right into the hands of sinn fein. Now I know sinn fein stir up the shit at times but this decision gives them reason to. BUT NO MATTER WHAT most of this money should go elsewhere, I know that certain groups need financial help and it is good to promote understanding and knowledge for those who are interested. But for me taking a few kids out of poverty is far more rewarding and necessary than funding ANY language or culture.

Exactly Setanta. I sat the other day with a few young lads one of which was high as kite. Not only do they commit crime to pay their habit, they carry out theft etc for the dealers as well. One guy who was about 21 or so had no family to care for him (his family are not what I would call a family) and was constantly on the receiving end of a good hiding which locals usually done because he was 'different' to them. Saying that the shape he was in he wouldn't have had much of a clue about who or what was hitting him.
These things have cut me deeply and while I argue about loadsa things on here, seeing people like this puts things in perspective Doesn't help when you see how hard some are trying to clean themselves when the dealers throw freebies through their doors.
There is a great place in the south run by nuns which has a high success rate for detox etc. Now this is somewhere that needs money, but even more so it is the children from homes where there parents are fucked in the head and there kids are left to fend for themselves, that need more money and attention. They need a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging and they need loads of caring and affection to help keep them off the streets. I really have had my eyes opened to what really goes on in some peoples lives.

I thought that was our day will come in Irish?? No!! Just messing with you. BTW "Uladh Go Bragh", means "Ulster Forever". I think it's "Uladh Go Bragh, so it is" in Ulster-Scots Heh. Like the US version, Setanta. Although I've never understood why anyone would think "go bragh" would mean forever. "Go deo" means forever, whereas "go bragh" is a misspelling of "go brea" which means fine or beautiful.

Ah bollox bearhunter and Jim are going to come after me with the leather straps next! I'M SORRY MUINTORI! I did pass level in my leaving cert and my intermittant taking of classes have all been in conversational Irish so I forget how to spell stuff. I tried to have a conversation with a mate who was raised down in Bear Island on the weekend and I couldn't give more then 1 line responses and he pointed out that most of them were wrong in some way so I have my name back down to take more classes. I have to anyway because my kids will be going to Gaelscoil when they're old enough. Eireann Go Brea was always meant as Ireland Forever, so take it up with the IRB yez bolloxs! Setanta! Tar amach! Lamh amhain (slapslapslap) lamh eile (slapslapslap). Suigh sios. Buachaill dana thu, Setanta....
