A man who raped a 15-year-old girl and then took her phone to call her mother and gloat about the attack is back behind bars after allegedly breaching the terms of his probation just weeks after his early release from jail.
Michael Sean Quinn, who walked free in August halfway through an eight-year sentence for the brutal rape, has since been rearrested for a number of offences, including breahing the terms of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, attempted burglary and criminal damage.
The authorities had applied for a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) in a bid to manage the threat posed by the 21-year-old on his release.
As part of the SOPO he was ordered to live at a south Belfast probation hostel, but he is understood to have allegedly breached the terms of the order by living at an unapproved address.
He was arrested last Friday and brought before a special sitting of Belfast Magistrates Court on Saturday, where he was charged with breaching the order, as well as attempted burglary, attempting to take a motor vehicle without consent and two counts of criminal damage.
Quinn’s early release from jail under 50% remission in August sparked outrage.
The high-risk sex offender twice raped the 15-year-old schoolgirl in August 2005.
He launched his first attack at a garage forecourt at Blacks Road in west Belfast while his cousin Terry McKenna — armed with an iron bar — held the victim's three young male friends hostage.
Quinn threatened her with a screwdriver and used the traumatised girl's mobile phone to call her mother and told her “I enjoyed raping your girl”.
He then attacked her again at a nearby golf course after forcing her to climb the gates.
Quinn was remanded in custody on the fresh charges until November 13.
