A Rasharkin man has said his family are desperate to leave the County Antrim village because of sectarian attacks. Christopher McCaughan's car was covered in paint and windows were smashed at his home on Church Road shortly after midnight on Saturday.
Mr McCaughan, who is a Protestant, said it was the latest in a series of attacks on his home and property. He said he has had enough. The police confirmed they are treating the latest incident as a hate crime.
Mr McCaughan told BBC Radio Ulster: "This has been going on since February. "I need some help from somebody to try and get me out of this situation that we are having to live through. "I want away from here," he said. Local DUP Councillor John Finlay described the latest incident as "blatantly sectarian". He said: "Sectarian attacks have been a regular occurrence this year in the town with attacks on a number of Protestant homes as well as the local Orange hall."
Wander if the local sf reps are going to organize meetings with the community over more sectarian attacks against Protestants like they did with residents concerning a parade which was to pass through the village.

Incidents like these aren't deemed serious enough for the residents group to call meeting. Just a whiff of an OO parade, a Loyalist and now even a Protestant and the village goes into overdrive.
Shame on those in the resident group. Shame on SF for failing to take the lead and perhaps call a meeting. Shame on the sectarian bigots ethnically cleansing the village.

My own concern is that when I hear SF say they condemn these attacks it often sounds like a by the numbers rehearsed speech which is wheeled out specifically for the purpose. I often find the comments insincere, and at the same time when nationalist areas or individuals have been attacked I've found some unionist politicans statements condemning it insincere.

This is the same place where the according to those who dont know the 'innocent sons of Mr McDaid just want to be left in peace and dont want trouble etc' went to shout abuse at Protestants in the village. Countless sectarian attacks with Protestants having to flee their homes for good and not one community meeting by sf to address this disgusting and cowardly behaviour.
BUT 1 single annual and tarditional band parade and sf organized several community meetings to discuss the best way of stopping and opposing the parade with sf being very very vocal on the news concerning how a parade is not wanted blah blah fucking blah.

If this is genuine. Then I'll pass something up the line. I'm not sure what the SF strategy is on dealing with this. I do know that when it came to a 2hr parade that there was about 2-3 meetings arranged. I'm not even saying it is a SF problem. What i'm saying is there is a real problem in Rasharkin. I'm saying reactions to a parade and reactions to peoples homes being attacked couldn't be more different. Its only a small village. The people don't want a parade so they meed to discuss what they can do. Do the people want these attacks on Protestants?
