WASP,
What's to be sorry about? It wouldn't be a proper thread here if it didn't deviate one way and another!

It's just you are posting on a must disputed topic where there are differing accounts of Cromwell and I ended up replying to afd's accusations.

Well this programme is a part of the same series that made 'Irelands Nazis', so it will probably put a few myths to bed. You can be sure that it will leave no stoned unturned anyway!

I welcome Ireland looking at itself and exploring the wrongdoings that happened. Why do you think programmes such as Irelands nazis have recently come to the forefront. From what I gathered this type of thing would usually have been dismissed or brushed under the carpet. I have read quite a few articles concerning different topics where Irish people are saying that I reland must stop airbrushing history and facing the facts which make uneasy reading.
Do you think there is a new sense of freedom or is it a case of a more sense of security or maturity where these things can be more openly talked about?

WASP,
It's to do with a change in attitudes. My generation have turned around and openly questioned the sacred cows of Irish society, culture and history. We are more confident now because we have had success and you can never rule out the liberation that more money brings to a place. I guess it also comes down to the healing nature of time, and the major factor is peace in NI.
Anyone watch the 2 programmes? Very interesting. 1/4 of the population of the island died while the new model army was here. Also O'Neill's forces in Clonmel killed more soldiers of the NMA than died in the whole of the English civil war, thanks to O'Neill's expertise in siege warfare gained in fighting in Spanish Flanders.

Funny enough the Agent of Rome could draw attention to Cromwell but is happy enough to allow the Vatican to rape, pillage, and destroy lives in Ireland. The suffering of the Irish people since the formation of the Irish Republic is sickening, as the Vatican has been allowed to enslave the Irish people, and use the most vulnerable members of Irish Society to enrich themselves. The Nuns who run the Magdelene Laundries enslaved vulnerable Irish women, and used them to do the dirty work for Rome, and the wealthy people within Ireland, as the girls were used as slave labour to fill the coffers of Rome, and provide slave and free labour for the business community within Ireland. The Industrial schools too were disasterous for the orphans, and weak defenceless kids, with no-one to defend them, and the Anti-Christian Brothers abused them sexually and psychologically for their own ends. The Magdelenes and the kids put through the other Institutions run by Rome were treated disgracefully and their horrendous suffering needs to be addressed. This site needs to stand up for the weak, helpless, vulnerable people of Ireland and needs to give them a voice, and needs to fight not against Cromwell, but against Rome, and all her Agents who have been behind the suffering of the Irish Nation. Have you ever visited Rome? Lovely place. Beautiful architecture and climate. You are going to have to update your rhetoric, as technically speaking, the Vatican is a separate state to Italy, nevermind being a part of the Italian capital. Associating the Vatican with Rome is the equivalent to associating Belfast with the ROI, and we know you'd never make that kind of mistake. It's got it's own euro coin stamps and all (I wonder if Aodhan has any??). If you are going to be against something, it helps to be read up on it, especially as events have moved on since the 1960's. Just so you know, I believe that mother church had as big a part to play in Irelands sorry history as anyone else. This programme is on Cromwell and not the RC church. You'll be able to see it on the History channel when it's broadcasted across Britain at a later date if you can't stomach watching 'Rome Telifís Eireann' (RTÉ). It is sad that the Irish Romans who pretend to be Republicans like Cromwell have never had the courage to fight against Rome. The Irish people use the name Republicanism to hide behind, but they are subservient to Rome, and their cowardly spirit has been exposed time and time again. The Protestant people have had the courage of their convictions to fight against Rome, but the Romans in Ireland prefer slavery to freedom, and allow the Romans to abuse their women and kids rather than fight against Roman Catholic Imperialism. The Magdelene Laundries, the Industrial Schools, the systematic abuse of Irish women and Irish kids by Rome, has shown what you are, and what you represent, and at the end of the day you haven't even the courage to stand up for your own people, not even the weak, the helpless, the vulnerable members of your society. The Irish State has colluded with Rome in the systematic abuse of Irish people and has covered-up for their vile behaviour and they are a disgrace to all right thinking people. Thank God to be born a Protestant!
