?? I can understand one being in London, considering it's a world class city, lots of arcitecture both modern and old, and the place is massive, but Belfast? was the city council so bereft of ideas, that they just decided to copy London? Is this what being British is all about, 'Let's copy the English'! I've worked in one of Dublins tallest buildings, and been in the gravity bar a few times, and I can say that something similar in Dublin would be just as useless. And they stick it right beside the beautiful majesty of Belfast city hall! It makes the place look like bloody Fossett's circus, especially when the clowns that are the local councilmen are in session! What's the views of everyone else on this 'imaginative', and 'original' idea? Do people really think that tourists want to see the local Polish community at work amoungst the roof-tops?

Work has begun on the construction of a "Belfast Eye" in the grounds of the City Hall. A 60m wheel is scheduled to open on 25 October, giving passengers panoramic views 200ft above the city. The 365 tonne structure has 42 fully enclosed capsules, each of which can carry six adults and two children for each 15 minute trip. The council and Department of Social Development said the £3.5m project would be self-financing. World Tourist Attractions, which will run the attraction, has already built big wheels in Manchester and Seville. John Lowry, from the company, said it was delighted that the construction of the wheel was finally under way. "We are due to stay until March, but we would like to stay longer," he told the Belfast Telegraph. "We've got engineers from Holland and technicians from England putting the wheel together. "It took a long time, but it is great to finally be over and to bring the wheel to Belfast. He added: "I understand that there will be an official ceremony held around November 19." The firm said that it would be operating the attraction in the city centre for the next five months.

They have one of those in Manchester, and this city doesnt have a billion sky-scrapers either. It has a fair few but they're not very close toghether.
Belfast has the tallest in Ireland and is building another, and most of its buildings date back from the 1900s like Manchester, too.

so am i jim - when i was on holiday recently we had to cross over one of those bridges over motorways which are covered in glass - since the windows were in poor repair and the bridge itself had loose bits it took me a good five minutes to nerve myself to do it.

Heights don't really bother me within reason and as long as I feel safe. I regularly have used cherry pickers, tall ladders, roof ladders etc and only usually am nervous going up or stepping out onto something. Anyway when I done a bungee jump I was bricking it and the guy with me told me to count back from one hundred as we were going up in the crane.
Believe it or not it didn't cure my fears but it certainly did ease them. So if you are ever going up to a height try counting backwards, you never know it helped me.

God. That would ruin me.
That new bridge they built on the Grosvner road (however its spelt) I had to walk across that to get into the town and it was still being built at the time, it goes over a motorway below and you could see the cars underneth and some parts where still wobbling, took me about 5 minutes and the rain was well heavy. Never again.

You're a braver man than I WASP! There's something not right about putting an elastic band around your legs and jumping off a cliff!
